Village Hill
The redevelopment of the former Northampton State Hospital property has been an ongoing effort for the past 25 years or more. While Berkshire Design was involved in some of the early redevelopment planning conversations on a city level, our participation increased dramatically starting in 2005 when we started work on the renovation of two existing buildings for affordable housing. Since that time, Berkshire Design has continued to design roadways, residential homes, commercial sites, a cohousing community, public open spaces, trails and other multi-family housing developments all co-mingled amongst majestic old trees and historical references with views of the Holyoke Range. With its close proximity to downtown Northampton, Smith College, community gardens, and other open space amenities like the Mill River, Village Hill has evolved into one of the regions most successful neighborhood developments.
