Groff Park

Amherst, Massachusetts

Groff Park has many features of a downtown urban park, but has a rural feel, given it’s location and placement within a hillside. The park remains a hidden gem off Route 116/West Street in Amherst. The $1.2 Million project was funded in part by the CPA funds and Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant.

The project incorporates a new splashpad, with age-appropriate play equipment and water features grouped together. The playground and splashpad is fully accessible with rubberized surfacing. The park includes a custom shade sail structure and a new picnic pavilion just off of the play and splash pad areas, making it easy for families to watch and spend more time socializing. Stormwater gardens and perennials can be found around the periphery of the park.

In addition to the new playground elements, the existing larger park still includes access to the Mill River, and 0.9 mile Emily Dickinson Trail, Picnic Tables, Pavilions, and sports fields. A variety of seating options include benches, picnic tables and a stone seat wall comprised of locally sourced stone.
