Frontier Regional High School Track

Deerfield, Massachusetts

After six months of construction, the Frontier Regional High School running track reconstruction has been completed. The first track meet is scheduled for Spring 2022! The new improved facility can now host tournaments, as all field events now meet NFHS standards, including regulation sized pole vault, high jump, long-jump, and triple jump area. The project provides a staging area for athlete check-in, and handicap accessible walk to the grandstand area.

The former track was ready for an upgrade as it was showing much wear and tear from its past 20 years of use: the asphalt base had begun cracking in many places and the all-weather surfacing had been patched several times. It was decided to remove and repave the base and all-weather surface. The new red track surface managed to fit within the budget, and it also matches the school colors. Calculations were made for the custom layout so that the interior athletic field was not disturbed, perimeter fencing was also upgraded and replaced. After much discussion about whether or not to extend the pavement beyond the fence line or have it fall within the fence line, it was decided it not have it extend past the fence line to avoid cracking around post locations.

During the design development period, the design team collaborated with the track committee, the track coach, and facilities director to gather valuable input, review costs, suggest alternates, and develop the final layout.

Once the project was underway, Mt. View Landscapes kept a tight construction site, only having materials delivered to the job site that was needed at the proper time period of work; (fencing, fill, rubber particle, etc). This minimized the extent of disturbance of the construction into adjacent areas.
