Three-County Fairground
Northampton, Massachusetts

Berkshire Design Group partnered with The BSP Group from 2008–2010 to develop a comprehensive Master Plan for the Three County Fairgrounds in Northampton. The planning effort needed to accommodate a wide range of year-round events while addressing significant site constraints, including traffic circulation, stormwater management, and floodplain limitations.

Working closely with the City of Northampton, Fairgrounds staff and administration, neighboring residents, the agricultural community, and other key stakeholders, the team developed a Master Plan that preserved the historic agricultural character of the Fairgrounds while identifying opportunities for growth and modernization. The plan emphasized flexible solutions, including strategic building reuse and renovation, as well as thoughtfully sited new facilities to support evolving program needs.

In 2011, Phase I of the Master Plan was realized with the construction of three new multi-purpose barns designed by Kuhn Riddle Architects. These barns provided much-needed covered, conditioned space to support exhibitions, trade shows, livestock events, and other large gatherings, significantly enhancing the Fairgrounds’ capacity to host diverse events throughout the year.
